Torrance, CA – September 14, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Nadel Architects has promoted Mark B. Mikelson, AIA, LEED AP senior vice president to director of the firm’s retail division. Mikelson, who has over 27 years of experience in retail development and is a licensed architect in Nevada, Arizona and California, will head the division out of the Nevada office, where he previously served as managing principal.

In his new position, Mikelson’s responsibilities will include providing a unified vision for the retail division, standardizing how the firm conducts its practice for retail projects and offering guidance to the various Nadel offices as a mentor for the retail principals.

Mikelson will be taking over the position of retail division director from Jerry Kramer, who joined Nadel Architects in 1976 and launched the retail division in the Los Angeles office. Kramer will be retiring this October following a 36-year tenure with Nadel Architects.

“Since joining Nadel Architects in 2005, Mark has been an invaluable member of the firm’s retail division as well as a respected leader within the retail industry at large,” said Herb Nadel, FAIA Chairman. “We are very excited to continue Nadel’s legacy of success and client satisfaction under Mark’s leadership.”

As managing principal of Nadel Nevada, Inc., Mikelson was responsible for the oversight of retail/mixed-use and commercial projects throughout Nevada. Throughout his tenure with Nadel, Mikelson has proven his ability to identify and explore alternatives for achieving great quality and meeting client-oriented goals. With a major focus in retail architecture, he has worked on a variety of retail and mixed-use projects ranging in size from 10-100 acres, and works with a variety of national retail tenants such as JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Walgreens and Albertsons, as well as national and local Las Vegas developers such as Weingarten, Howard Hughes Corp., American Nevada, Territory, Inc. and Laurich Properties.

Mikelson is currently serving his third and final term as ICSC Retail Chair for Nevada. He is also actively involved in the Southern Nevada chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In addition, Mikelson is a LEED® Accredited Professional and is also registered with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

The Nadel retail division is responsible for over 600 shopping centers, representing more than 30 million square feet of retail and entertainment destinations throughout the western regions of the United States and abroad.
