City Of Las Vegas And Partners Focus Efforts On Affordable Housing For Seniors

City of Las Vegas and project officials will celebrate the grand opening of the new McKnight Senior Village II Apartment Complex at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. The new development is located at 651 McKnight St. and is the second of three phases of planned development that is home to active seniors where the head of household is at least 55 years of age.

The city of Las Vegas partnered with George Gekakis Incorporated, the Richman Group Affordable Housing Corporation, Clark County Nevada Community Resources Management, Silver State Housing, Bank of Nevada, Idaho Nevada CDFI, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, Amalgamated Bank, Bank of America, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State of Nevada Housing Division to create this new complex. The city of Las Vegas provided $1,201,744 in federal grant funds to assist with the cost of construction.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese, and other project officials plan to participate in the ceremonial festivities.

“By working together with all of these agencies, we are creating affordable senior housing that is badly needed,” said Mayor Pro Tem Reese, who represents this area. “I am proud to be part of the partnership that is making this next phase of the McKnight Senior Village become a reality. These are truly beautiful homes that our seniors can enjoy.”

This second phase of development consists of 77 two-bedroom apartment homes incorporating energy conservation and green building and ADA features throughout. Each apartment home is equipped with a tank-less hot water heater, reversible ceiling fans, triple pane low e windows and walk-in shower. Residents also have access to supportive services that help seniors live a full, healthy and active life.

Common areas include a club house that features a full kitchen, computer room, billiard room, piano bar, health room, craft room and fitness center. There is an outdoor pool, spa and three picnic areas with gas barbeque grills. This second phase of a three-phase, 211-unit gated senior community is located near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road
