U.S. Vets Awarded $230,000 Department of Labor Grant

Washington D.C. – August 9, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Shelley Berkley today announced that Nevada will receive nearly $230,000 in federal grant funding to provide homeless veterans with job training.  The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to U.S. Vets in Southern Nevada.

“The funding awarded under this grant will help homeless veterans in southern Nevada receive job training through U.S. Vets, a remarkable organization that works with men and women who served in the armed forces and are now in need of non-military careers.  America’s veterans deserve the opportunity to enhance their job skills so they can compete for new employment opportunities and this funding will help U.S. Vets provide this critical assistance in southern Nevada to local homeless veterans,” said Berkley.

The grant to U.S. Vets was awarded as part of the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP).  U.S. Vets and other grantees will offer occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services for homeless veterans.  Grantees under the HVRP program coordinate their efforts with various local, state and federal social service providers.  HVRP is the only federal program that focuses exclusively on employment of veterans who are homeless.
