Velotta Receives Individual Award For Organizational Excellence
WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 17, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — City of Las Vegas employee Marco Velotta received the 2013 Individual Award for Organizational Excellence at the recent U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Nevada Green Gala held at the Nevada State Museum.

The annual award-winning individuals and organizations are examples of outstanding people and organizations that are recognized for their sustainable contributions within Southern Nevada. The award presented to Velotta recognizes his ongoing contributions not only to the city of Las Vegas but also to the community, advocating for healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.
Velotta has been instrumental in helping develop the city’s Sustainability Initiative. He has worked on projects ranging from development of more than 5.5 megawatts of renewable energy to establishing a community-wide energy-efficiency program and installation of bike racks in downtown. His tenure in the Sustainability Office has seen cost savings on utilities exceed $5 million annually, while increasing renewable energy to more than 20 percent and recycling rates in excess of 55 percent across all city facilities. Velotta has worked tirelessly to advance sustainability in the community, helping form the Las Vegas Bicycle Coalition, the non-profit Energy Fit Nevada, and providing technical input to the Southern Nevada Strong project led by the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition.
USGBC Nevada Chapter is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to advocate adoption of sustainable codes, implementation of sustainable construction practices for existing and new buildings and access to sustainable education throughout the State.
