The award presented to Velotta recognizes his ongoing contributions not only to the city of Las Vegas but also to the community, advocating for healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

He has worked on projects ranging from development of more than 5.5 megawatts of renewable energy to establishing a community-wide energy-efficiency program and installation of bike racks in downtown. His tenure in the Sustainability Office has seen cost savings on utilities exceed $5 million annually, while increasing renewable energy to more than 20 percent and recycling rates in excess of 55 percent across all city facilities. Velotta has worked tirelessly to advance sustainability in the community, helping form the Las Vegas Bicycle Coalition, the non-profit Energy Fit Nevada, and providing technical input to the Southern Nevada Strong project led by the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition.
