City Of Las Vegas Planning Commission Workshop To Focus On Redevelopment Goals
Las Vegas, NV – February 3, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) – The city of Las Vegas Planning Commission will hold a public workshop on Thursday, Feb. 5, to hear a presentation regarding the city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency and its goals of creating jobs and revitalizing downtown Las Vegas. The meeting is scheduled for noon in conference room 2B of the Development Services Center, located at 731 S. Fourth St.
Planning Commission workshops are held annually, and allow the commissioners the chance for an in-depth look at different subjects while taking no formal action.
The Redevelopment Agency (RDA) was created in 1986 to reverse the blight occurring in the city’s downtown core. The RDA has been among the most successful redevelopment agencies in the nation according to a new report that will be presented at the Wednesday, Feb. 4, Redevelopment Agency meeting at 8 a.m. in City Council chambers, located at 400 Stewart Ave.
Since the RDA’s inception there has been $2.7 billion in new development and 24,348 jobs created in the Redevelopment Area. In the last five years the tax revenue generated by the RDA has tripled from $8 million to $25 million a year. This revenue provides additional funding for education, affordable housing and city services.
Thursday’s presentation to the Planning Commission was previously presented to the City Council, and will go into additional detail about the RDA’s successes and the redevelopment momentum that the agency has built in downtown Las Vegas. Among the agency’s successful projects are the Las Vegas Premium Outlets, World Market Center, Fremont East District, Historic Fifth Street School and many residential and retail projects.
