Justice Department Settles Housing Discrimination Lawsuit Against Owners of Carson City, Nevada, Rental Properties

The Washoe County Community Services Department’s Planning and Development Division is hosting a public workshop and open house regarding proposed amendments to Washoe County Code Chapter 110 (Development Code). The proposed updates focus on accessory structures and uses located on vacant property adjacent to a lot with a home or other established main use, and when both properties are under the same ownership.

Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting Highlights

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) received a boost to its fleet after the Board of Fire Commissioners approved two new water tender fire trucks at Tuesday’s meeting. TMFPD Chief Charles Moore said the new trucks will increase reliability to the fleet. He said the trucks will take about nine months to build.

Forté Specialty Contractors, a Las Vegas-based construction company specializing in building for the experience for restaurants, nightclubs, museum exhibits and themed, experiential venues, has announced the hire of Greg Hellem as superintendent. Based in the company’s Las Vegas headquarters, Hellem will be responsible for providing leadership to the on-site staff to supervise the quality of work and to ensure projects are completed on-time and on-budget. Hellem’s first project with Forté will be working on Wynn’s newest nightclub, Intrigue.

ULI to Advise Reno, Nevada on Virginia Street Corridor

This week, an eight-person panel of nationally renowned land use, design, and urban planning experts will visit Reno, Nevada to evaluate how to improve the area’s livability and economic development potential. The advisory services panel, convened by the Urban Land Institute (ULI), specifically will be researching the economic vitality and activation of the Virginia Street Corridor by considering land use, design, and transportation elements from the University of Nevada, Reno (17th Street) to Meadowood Mall (McCarran Boulevard).

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Reaffirms MERS is Beneficiary under Nevada Law

MERSCORP Holdings, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed a district court’s ruling that dismissed a borrower’s complaint. In pdf Lial v. Las Vegas, NV - January 6, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Effective January 31, 2011, The Federal Trade Commission has banned loan modification companies from charging up-front fees for negotiating modifications of residential mortgage loans. According to Eric Witksoki, Chief of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, and the state consumer advocate, “Money spent on mortgage modification consultants is a bad bet for consumers.” Additionally, Witkoski commented that spending money on loan modification is “worse than some of the odds at the casino tables.”

The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office is seeking public comments on a proposal to sell 40 parcels totaling 754.88 acres of public land in Clark County, Nevada. The competitive sale would be by sealed and oral bidding in accordance with the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA). A Notice of Realty Action published in today’s Federal Register opens a 45-day comment period which will close January 8, 2018.
