Mayor Also Receives Community Service Award From The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation

Las Vegas, November 05, 2007 — Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman and city staff returned from a trip to New York last week to meet with some of the top investment houses in the United States. The mayor, City Manager Doug Selby, Office of Business Development Director Scott Adams, and Redevelopment Manager Bill Arent met with representatives of the top firms to send the message that Las Vegas remains a great investment opportunity, particularly in downtown.

This was an expanded trip from 2006, when the group made a similar trip to New York. An extra day was added to this year’s scheduling, including increasing the number of one-on-one visits. Some of the firms visited included Goldman Sachs, Warburg Pincus and Fortress Investment Group. Representatives from many of the Wall Street firms indicated that they planned to follow up with visits to downtown Las Vegas.

The focus of this year’s trip was on the great progress and momentum the downtown has realized over the last three years, especially this past year, with a focus on bringing new financing and developers to downtown Las Vegas.

“A lot has been said about the Las Vegas economy, specifically the housing downturn, and we wanted to clear up any misconceptions and make them excited about investing their money in downtown Las Vegas,” Mayor Goodman said. “Las Vegas, especially downtown, continues to be a great investment opportunity.”

The trip also included several appearances by the mayor on the Fox Business Channel.

The mayor also received the Community Service Award from the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation during a luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Some of the more notable award recipients have been former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Colin Powell; Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff; former Secretary of State Dr. Henry A. Kissinger; former New York Governor George Pataki; New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others.

The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation, founded in 1988, provides financial support to the law enforcement community in time of tragedy. The foundation also funds inner city programs for children, drug reduction initiatives, scholarship programs and executive education for both members of law enforcement and the private sector. The foundation is active in 200 communities and nine countries.
