Las Vegas, NV – September 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement today on President Obama and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy’s release of the final Clean Power Plan to establish the first-ever national standards to limit carbon pollution from existing power plants. The Clean Power Plan is landmark action to protect public health, reduce energy bills for households and businesses, create American jobs, and bring clean power to communities across the country.
“The President’s announcement of the Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon pollution from power plants is vital to addressing the threat of global climate change,” said Titus. “In Southern Nevada we are already seeing long-term, severe drought conditions in the Colorado River Basin threatening Lake Mead, which supplies 90% of our region’s drinking water.
“The Administration’s announcement follows the State of Nevada’s enactment of SB 123, which moves our state away from dangerous, coal-based power and towards clean, renewable energy generated right here in Nevada. Stakeholders from the energy sector and environmental groups came together to see that important bill become law, putting Nevada at the forefront of addressing global climate change and protecting consumers from volatile fossil fuel energy markets.
“In Washington, I am working to promote the development of clean, renewable energy on our public lands, so that Nevada can continue to grow as a leader in the clean energy industry. We have already seen major commercial solar projects be built in Southern Nevada. With SB 123 and the continued commitment from the Administration to approve energy development projects on our federal lands, I am confident that Nevada can be a model for many of our neighboring states. It is fitting that the President plans to visit Nevada to outline the details of the historic Clean Power Plan, and I look forward to welcoming him back to our great state.”
