Titus Announces Grant to Help Once-Incarcerated Veterans to Avoid Homelessness
Dina Titus, Representative of Nevada’s First Congressional District and a Member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, announced $1.5 million in grants have been awarded by the Department of Labor to assist once-incarcerated veterans who are considered “at risk” of experiencing homelessness. U.S. Vets, located in Nevada’s First Congressional District, has been awarded $110,000 and is one of seven organizations across the nation to receive the “Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program” grant.

2015-2016 Real Property Tax Bills in the Mail
Tax bills for the more than 740,000 parcels in Clark County are being mailed this week, according to the County Treasurer’s Office. Taxes for the fiscal year are due on the third Monday in August, but may be paid in four installments if the taxes exceed $100.
SENATE COMMITTEE ADVANCES BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO PROMOTE SAFER STREETS AND COMMUNITIES
Yesterday, the Senate Commerce Committee approved the Comprehensive Transportation and Consumer Protection Act of 2015, which included a bipartisan amendment, introduced by U.S. Senators Dean Heller (R-Nev.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), Edward Markey (D-Mass.), and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) that will improve the safety of our nation’s roads and expand access for bikers and pedestrians. The amendment directs the Department of Transportation, in coordination with states, to establish standards to ensure safe use of our nation’s roads.

Justice Department Sues Nevada Housing Provider for Discriminating Against Families with Children
The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit against the owners of rental properties in Carson City, Nevada, alleging violations of the Fair Housing Act. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, charges that Betty Brinson and Hughston Brinson, the owners of a single-family rental home, discriminated against families with children by placing a series of advertisements in the local newspaper indicating a preference for adult tenants, and by refusing to rent the home to a family with three children because they did not want children living at the property
USDA offers funds to assist very low income seniors with well repair
USDA’s 504 Home Repair program provides a grant of up to $7,500 for very low-income homeowners aged 62 and over to repair a well. USDA Loans at 1% are also available for very low-income homeowners, and there is no age eligibility requirement for the loan. If USDA's resources are not enough to cover the cost of well repair or replacement for eligible families, they can be supplemented with funds from the Nevada Housing Division's Low Income Housing Trust Fund, as noted on the attached flyer.
EPA orders City of North Las Vegas to safeguard Las Vegas Wash from potential...
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued an order to the City of North Las Vegas to take immediate steps to address federal Clean Water Act violations. Deficiencies in the management of its wastewater pretreatment program have the potential to lead to discharges of polluted water from the city’s Water Reclamation Facility into the Las Vegas Wash, which eventually feeds into Lake Mead.
